Student City Challenge 2021
Arnhem Studiestad works together with Citymarketing Arnhem, HAN University of Applied Sciences, ArtEZ University of the Arts, Van Hall Larenstein and ROC Rijn IJssel to make Arnhem an even more attractive city for study and work. As part of that, Arnhem Studiestad is organizing a Student City Challenge!
During the challenge, students will work on issues from local government (City of Arnhem), research institutes and the business community that can innovate and boost the student climate in Arnhem. We’ll be doing this in a 15-hour event where first, second and third year students use ideation and design to work towards an innovative business case: a pressure cooker where students are continuously fed and stimulated through associations, emotions and intuition based on the Creative Inventive Thinking method.
Students from different degree programs will explore the issues together in an interdisciplinary setting and under the guidance of a coach. This is a great practical case for students to get acquainted with entrepreneurship. Interdisciplinary cooperation, workshops on social design, biomimicry, business model canvas and stakeholder validation are all part of the program. A pitch fair will be held at the end for the City Deal Kennis Maken and Ondernemers Kontakt Arnhem entrepreneur network. A jury will select the three best teams for a public pitch.
You and your fellow students strive to work as a real-world startup during the project. It is your mission to think, work and act like a team. Who is the leader, the strategist, the planner and the "let’s focus and have fun" person?
The best coaches
Want to learn from the best? Benefit from the 20+ years of experience you don't yet have? Get help staying organized? We’ve got you covered with a great team of professionals serving as your coaches. They will advise, support and ask you the right questions to guide your team to success.
Pitch your concept to a jury and win
At the end of the event you and your team pitch your concept to a real jury and get a chance to win a great prize! These people know what a startup is all about and are keen to hear your ideas. There will be a workshop on 'pitching', so you’ll be well prepared.
When: May 28th, 2021
Where: HAN Campus Arnhem, Ruitenberglaan 26, Techniek gebouw (technical building)
The issues are:
What does your future student residence look like? Devise a housing concept that uses sustainability and social impact as its starting points. What’s a good location in Arnhem? Do you want mixed housing? Social diversity? Circular design/energy transition? And what part of this concept could contribute to a healthy lifestyle, including e.g. physical, mental, spiritual and nutritional health?
Student well-being post COVID-19
Studying: lots of fun! New contacts, friends, going out together, doing fun things and discovering the city: a great adventure. But what if you’re not doing quite so well? Come up with a solution to contribute to student well-being in the broadest sense of the word: where can students turn with feelings of loneliness, financial concerns, and questions about health, study or personal matters?
Arnhem Region Knowledge Campus
How to make the studentcampus near the Van Hall Larenstein and HAN campuses a great place to be. Using smart moblity and innovative ways to design better facilities to make this region more attractive and inclusive for everyone.
The Arnhem 20-25 Food Challenge: consume 20% local products by 2025
“We would like Arnhem citizens to know more about the food they consume, to be connected with the producers in the region, and to rely on as few food miles as possible. This will benefit our wellbeing, will benefit the regional economy and environment and will create a feeling of community and safety.” What if we managed somehow to make sure that at least 20% of the food we consume in Arnhem comes from the growers in the vicinity? How can your team contribute to achieving this goal?

Amy van Son is licensee, producer and curator of TEDx talks at TEDxArnhem, next to being a business coach to many entrepreneurs and startups. During Student StartUp she will coach the students on their pitch qualities with crossing t's and dotting i's to make it their best pitch ever.
Social Design by Luuk Wiehink | Earn-E
Luuk Wiehink is the founder of the companies Wijkie and EARN-E. Luuk gives this workshop on how to ensure that you will achieve real impact with your projects.
