STUDENT CITY CHALLENGE - THE COACHES
Annelou van Griensven
Annelou van Griensven is one of the founders of De Vormforensen, a graphic design agency in Arnhem. Together with Anne-Marie Geurink she works on sustainable and social graphic design projects. They look at the world from the perspective of graphic anthropology and reflect on social themes such as: the YouTube arts, the media-generation gap, the bubble economy and the part-time world idealist.
New words, essays, typography, creating new images and designing books are part of their studio practice. Annelou teaches design methodology in the Design Art Technology department and Open Lab in the Graphic Design department of ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem. She graduated from ArtEZ Graphic Design in 2008 and from the Sandberg Institute, the MA course at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, in 2010.
I believe in the concept of 'identity as a tool for growth'. That's why my core business is running Studio Hands - a creative agency for 'ideas that have to grow'. Hands consists out of ±20 independent creatives and works on projects in brand development, visual identity and visual communication. My role there is to design creative processes. Besides Hands, I'm happy to be creative director for INNOVATE, a Gelderland-based festival and online label that focuses on connecting, inspiring and promoting innovation.
In the time I have left in the working week, I try to help students and alumni develop their professional career via the Startclub Arnhem initative and also my position at the ArtEZ Master programme, where I guide students in developing their portfolios. It might seem like a lot of different things, but to me, it's all about finding the essence and communicating it in the most convincing and exciting way.
My work is in the field of Social Design and setting up projects around social themes. As a designer I deliver a product, a blueprint, or specific approach with a contemporary proposition. For my projects I am looking for (unexpected) partnerships. To further develop a proposition and get it on the market, setting up partnerships is crucial. It's important to be bold and build partnerships with conviction. Realize real impact by working together.
